Broncos Tame Colts at Mile High

It wasn’t from Sakae Sushi, in California, but it was a damn good platter of cold dead fish, courtesy of the LA Rams’ offense outlasting Josh Allen and the Bills last Sunday in one of the best games of the season. That play on the Rams in last week’s column was my “Uber Eats” play of the week, so Mrs. Holliday was quite excited when they held on to cover and she relished the rolls and sashimi.

I ended up 3-0 ATS with last week’s picks, taking my overall season record to 28-13-1 ATS. I’ve got a few more plays this week, starting with a tepid pick from the lean college card, circling in on that Navy vs. Army game. As to this week’s game that will determine what Mrs. Holliday and I will enjoy on Sunday evening, it’s from that Thursday Niner game. We remember a night of roasted crab (and garlic noodles) at Thanh Long in San Francisco. We’ll take a shot at re-creating some version of this crab meal if the 49ers can get the cover.

Good luck this week.

Navy vs. Army
It’s a pretty lean college schedule this week, and truthfully, not much that jumps out for me. I’m going to tread lightly though with the underdog in the Army – Navy game. Last week Navy had a week off, while all Army did was roll up Tulane to win the conference. As impressive as that win was, I give an edge to Navy with the scheduling, getting that week of rest and prep specifically for this game. These games are always close, and Navy certainly has the roster to give Army a real battle.

Play: I’ve taken Navy +6.5

NFL

Rams vs. 49ers
Fresh off that battle royale vs. the Bills last week, LA heads north to face a Niners team still dealing with health issues. I’m looking forward to the head-to-head between coaches McVay and Shanahan. I was on the Rams last week, but this is a team that, even when winning, flirts with trouble all the way. San Fran can move the ball on this defense. I like that matchup.

Play: I’m on the Niners -3

Colts vs. Broncos
Coach Payton and an offense that can be relied on, playing at home at Mile High vs. an offense that can’t be relied on, led by QB Richardson. Richardson completes just under 50% of his passes, while Bo Nix is right around 65%. Both teams are off their bye weeks. I mentioned Coach Payton above. I’ll side with him and his staff with that extra prep time over the Colts’ coaching unit. A little queasy about the fact Broncos’ defense allowed 552 yards vs. Cleveland in their last game, 475 through the air. Still, I’m looking for them to get pressure, like they can, and disrupt an Indy offense that is disrupt-able.

Play: I’m on the Broncos -4
