The No. 2 Florida Gators take on the Georgia Bulldogs in an SEC matchup Tuesday night, February 25th. The Gators have now won six consecutive games, boasting a winning margin of nine points or more in each of those six games on this run. The closest battle was an impressive road win over #1 Auburn, clipping them 90-81. Florida’s hitting their stride at a perfect time as they look to secure a #1 seed come tournament selection time. Their average margin of victory during their 6-0 run is +15.0 points.

On the other side of the court tonight is a Georgia team that has dropped their last four starts, with three of those four being drubbings, losing by 12 points or more. Pulling back a bit further, it doesn’t get any prettier, with the Bulldogs managing only two wins the last 11 times they’ve taken the court. I don’t see them stemming the losing tide tonight. This is a team that is really struggling offensively, as evidenced by a current ranking of 13th in the SEC in points per game (74.8).

These two recently hooked up, going head-to-head on Sunday January 25th. The Gators were laying double digits in that one (-11.5 points), but laid the hammer down, taking Georgia to the proverbial woodshed with an 89-59 beatdown. In that 30-point victory, Florida had 23 fast break points, while Georgia had only four. The Gators had the rebounding edge, points in the paint, as well as fewer turnovers. Georgia did not have a single player score more than ten points. Florida was better in every way, as you might expect when you look at that score.
This will be the Bulldogs fifth straight game against an opponent ranked in the AP Top 25, and Georgia has lost all four of those prior games. KenPom has Florida ranked 4th in offensive efficiency and 7th in defensive efficiency. They play at the 97th fastest pace out of 364 Division I teams. Georgia is ranked 45th overall according to KenPom. They are 67th in offensive efficiency and 34th in defensive efficiency.

I like this balanced Florida team to keep on rolling. It likely won’t be as lopsided as the earlier meeting, but….the “Gators-aid” their push towards a #1 March Madness tournament seed with this win and cover.
Greg Dempson’s Play: Lay the 7 points and back the Florida Gators.
