Over in the football section of the Winner’s Edge office all we’re hearing is them going on and on about Week 18, and everything that entails, in terms of handicapping the games. Way back here in the hockey section, no such anxiety exists. It’s pretty much the same old, same old. So with that, here we go with more plays, starting with Saturday action.
With the Christmas break, and the Christmas issue, we had one play last week, a winner (the Minnesota Wild beat the Dallas Stars at +145) and one play last night (on the Blackhawks), taking our overall season record to 30-11, and pushing the profit to over 24 units.
Here’s two for Saturday
Good luck!
Winner’s Edge Season Record: 30-11
Profit: +24.54 units
Saturday – January 4, 2025
Detroit Red Wings at Winnipeg Jets
The Jets have dropped their last two games. One could be expected (Colorado on the road), the other not so much (Anaheim at home). This isn’t a team used to losing three in a row, nor back-to-back on home ice vs. inferior opponents. The Wings recent form has been impressive, winning three in a row. That’s a good thing for us, as it’s brought this line down a bit. We like the home side to bounce back with a win, cooling Detroit off a bit. We did flirt with playing this on the puck line at -1.5, with some healthy plus money (+123), but chose to go with a win in regulation time (no overtime) – giving us a palatable line (of -125). We usually don’t like to lay more than -120 in hockey, but will make an exception with this extra juice to back a very good home side, with tons of motivation to roll.
Play: We’re on the Jets to win in regulation at -125
Nashville Predators at Calgary Flames
We like this spot for a Calgary Flames team that has been beating teams they should beat (and sometimes punching above their weight). That type of reliability is important to keep an eye on when handicapping. We like this lineup against the bottom half of the league, and like the fact they show up when facing an opponent they feel they’re either equal to, or better than. Nashville is one of those teams. We’ll be on the home team at a reasonable line.
Play: We’re taking the Flames -111
